Honored to Address the New Students Council at GVM’s College, Ponda
On August 12, 2024, I recently had the distinct honor of serving as the chief guest for the New Students Council installation program at Goa Vidyaprasarak Mandal’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics in Farmagudi, Ponda-Goa. This event was a wonderful celebration of leadership, camaraderie, and the spirit of student governance.
The program began with a warm welcome song performed by the talented students, setting a joyful tone for the day. Following this, we participated in a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony—a beautiful ritual that symbolizes the dispelling of darkness and the embrace of knowledge and wisdom.
Principal Prof. Teotone Vaz delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing the significance of the Students Council. It was heartening to see the presence of esteemed guests including Dr. Meera Mayenkar, Vice Principal; Dr. Sulaxana Vernekar, Chairperson of the Students Council; Miss Diya Naik, General Secretary; as well as dedicated teachers, council members, and enthusiastic students.
One of the most rewarding moments for me was pinning the badges on the newly elected council members. It filled me with pride to be part of this significant milestone in their journey. The Students Council plays a crucial role as a conduit for effective communication, ensuring that students have a voice in the decisions that impact their college experience. Through this platform, council members develop vital leadership skills by organizing meetings, facilitating discussions, and representing the student body.
When it was my turn to speak, I took the opportunity to highlight the importance of the Students Council and the responsibilities that come with it. I urged the members to embrace their roles with dedication, as they are not just representatives but the voice of their peers. Their leadership journey offers invaluable experience, equipping them with skills that will be beneficial throughout their careers.
The program was truly uplifting, showcasing the enthusiasm and potential of the student leaders. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the newly installed Students Council and wish them great success in their endeavors. May they lead with integrity, creativity, and a commitment to community welfare!
