A Day of Patriotism and Reflection: Independence Day at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary School, Gaunem Goa

Recently, I had the privilege of attending a Flag Hoisting ceremony on the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day at the Mahatma Gandhi Centenary School in Gaunem, Goa. As I stood there amidst the sea of eager young faces, a flood of childhood memories came rushing back, filling me with nostalgia and pride.

The energy in the air was palpable, especially as the children sang the national anthem and patriotic songs with an enthusiasm that was simply infectious. Their voices, filled with sincerity and pride, reminded me of my own school days, where the thrill of Independence Day was marked by similar celebrations. There is something incredibly powerful about the innocence and fervor of children, especially when it comes to expressing love for the country.

The event was further elevated by the presence of the Chief Guest, Retired Head Constable of the CRPF, Shri Dhondu Shashikant Zantye. It was an honor to see him at the occasion, a man who has dedicated much of his life to serving our nation.

Shri Zantye was felicitated under the initiative “Country First” by the Samraat Club of Madkai, a gesture that recognized and celebrated his contributions to the country.

As the Secretary of the Samraat Club of Madkai, I was deeply honored to be part of this felicitation ceremony. Joining me were our Club President, Shri Sadanand Naik, Project Director Shri Bhikaji Mhajik, and several other dignitaries, members, teachers, and students. Together, we celebrated not just the anniversary of our nation’s independence but also the spirit of service and sacrifice embodied by Shri Zantye and countless others like him.

One of the highlights of the event was the interaction with the CRPF personnel. It’s not every day that one gets the opportunity to converse with those who serve on the front lines, protecting our nation’s borders and ensuring our safety. Their insights into their work, their lifestyle, and the challenges they face were both humbling and inspiring. It was a rare and valuable opportunity to learn more about the lives of those who often remain unsung heroes in our daily lives.

As the event drew to a close, I took a moment to personally thank Shri Dhondu Shashikant Zantye for his service towards the nation. Wishing him good health and well-being felt like a small gesture in comparison to the immense sacrifices he and his fellow servicemen have made for our country. It was a moment of deep respect and gratitude, not just for Shri Zantye but for all the men and women who have dedicated their lives to the service of India.

In conclusion, the Independence Day celebration at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary School was more than just an event; it was a powerful reminder of the values and ideals that bind us together as a nation. It was a day filled with memories, both old and new, and a renewed sense of pride in being an Indian.
