Cyber Crime Awareness Session at Akashvani Panaji by Rohir Naik

On 19th June 2025, I had the privilege of leading a Cyber Crime Awareness Workshop for the dedicated staff of Akashvani, Panaji, Goa. Conducted by Mr. Peeyush Gautam, Assistant Director (OL), the session focused on raising awareness about the increasing threat of cybercrime across India and how citizens in Goa were also affected by the schemes. The workshop focused on presenting proactive steps every individual should take to stay protected.

As the CEO and Digital Business Expert at Coderix, tackling evolving cyber threats is central to what I do. To ensure I have the deepest understanding, I’ve built my expertise over the years through specialised courses, hands-on experience and focused learning. I’ve personally dealt with and resolved numerous cyber fraud incidents, particularly those involving financial scams, phishing attacks, identity theft and social media impersonation. These cases not only highlight the technical vulnerabilities but also the lack of awareness that often allows these crimes to succeed.

As the session unfolded, we analysed real-world instances of digital fraud to illustrate how these cybercrimes usually evolve and the strategies that offenders frequently utilise. The discussion was mostly on warning signs to look out for, such as suspicious links, unwanted messages and phishing attempts that can be avoided by implementing preventative strategies. I spoke about the importance a password holds in the digital zone. Creating one strong, unique password, turning on two-factor authentication and maintaining secure network practices both at home and in the workplace can turn out to be a saviour at urgent times. Additionally, I spoke about the legal options sought by the victims of online fraud.

The active participation and genuine concern from the Akashvani staff were really appreciable. Their curiosity and questions made it clear how genuine they were in understanding the concept and how awareness is the first line of defence in the current digital world. They knew that they had the bigger responsibility of conveying this information to their active listeners and followers.

The growing concept of digitalisation has made a lot of things easier and convenient in this hyper-connected era, making it the easiest platform for criminals to do their deeds. The cyber criminals are actively at your doorstep, waiting for one mistake that could be their opportunity. Whether you’re a retired individual, business owner or working staff, staying informed is non-negotiable.

I am grateful to the Akashvani, Panaji, staff for this opportunity and look forward to taking this conversation forward with more organisations and institutions. Remember, it’s never too late to be educated on new concepts. Let’s make cyberspace a safer place for all of us.
